Final 16 teams advance to Sunday. The teams will be placed in groups of four with the other teams from their quarter. The top team in each group advances to the semifinals. 

Format:
Teams: Minimum of three people on a team (no player may throw more than two batons during each turn). At least half of the players on a team must be from U.S. $75/team. We are unable to refund registrations. Registration will be online. 

Saturday Group Play: Teams are placed in groups of four. Each team will play three round-robin matches in their group. All matches are best-of-three. First round matches need to end by 10:10, second round matches need to end by 11:20, and third round matches need to end by 12:30. If more than 128 teams are registered, some groups will have five teams. Teams in those groups will play four best-of-three matches and have one bye. Matches in groups of five will have a 40 minute time-limit. Ties in group play will be decided by the following tiebreakers: First tiebreaker is games won. Second tiebreaker is head-to-head. Third tiebreaker is a throw-off. Throw-offs will consist of each team inkasting three kubbs and hitting as many field kubbs and baseline kubbs as possible with six batons. The team that knocks down the most kubbs wins the tiebreaker. If teams are tied after the first round, an additional kubb will be added to the inkasting. If the teams are tied again, a fifth kubb will be added, and an additional kubb will be added when teams continue to tie in a round. At no time during the Championship are players allowed to practice on other pitches during their matches.  

Saturday Playoffs: All teams advance to the playoffs. Playoffs will start at approximately 1pm. Teams that win their first playoff match will continue in the Championship Bracket. Teams that lose their first playoff match will enter the Bronze Bracket (64 teams, best-of-one). Teams that win in the round of 64 will continue in the Championship Bracket, and the teams that lose in the round of 64 will enter the Silver Bracket (32 teams, best-of-one). The final 16 teams in the Championship Bracket will return Sunday morning. There is a 1.5 hour timelimit in the first round of the playoffs. In the round of 64, there is a two-hour timelimit. There is no timelimit in the round of 32. There is a 45 minute timelimit for Silver and Bronze bracket matches. Medals and podium prize bags will be given out to the top four teams in Silver and Bronze brackets. In groups of five, teams that finish in fifth place will automatically be placed in a fourth bracket. This bracket will be a double elimination format and the top four teams will receive podium prize bags.

Sunday Playoffs: The four remaining teams in each quarter of the Championship Bracket will play against each other. Each match will have a 1 hour and 30 minute time limit. Matches #2 and #3 can start when all four teams are ready. The team that wins each of the four groups will advance to the semifinals. The second place team in each bracket will finish Tied for 5th. The third place team in each bracket will finish Tied for 9th. The fourth place team in each bracket will finish Tied for 13th. Ties in group play will be decided by the following tiebreakers: First tiebreaker is games won. Second tiebreaker is a throw-off. Throw-offs will consist of each team inkasting three kubbs and hitting as many field kubbs and baseline kubbs as possible with six batons. The team that knocks down the most kubbs wins the tiebreaker. If teams are tied after the first round, an additional kubb will be added to the inkasting. If the teams are tied again, a fifth kubb will be added, and an additional kubb will be added when teams continue to tie in a round. This process will determine the winner. Semi-finals will start after the group play. Semi-finals and Final will have no time limit. Final and Bronze Medal match begin immediately after the semifinals. The Bronze Medal match is best-of-one.

Team Placement: Top 16 teams from 2023 will be divided in the four quarters of the Championship. The top four teams will be placed in different quarters. The four teams that finished tied for fifth, ninth, and thirteenth will be randomly placed in opposite ends of each quarter. Each quarter will have a team that finished in the top four and T-5, T-9, and T-13. None of these teams will be placed in the same group of four. To get this placement, teams will be required to have at least two of the same players from 2023.

All group winners and teams that finished 17-32 from the previous year will also get preferred seeding. Group winners and teams 17-32 that did not advance to the final 16 teams will be placed in groups without other group winners and/or top 16 teams. If there are more teams with preferred seeding than groups, some groups will have two teams with preferred seeding. All other teams will be randomly placed in groups. Due to the random draw, teams from the same club/city/neighborhood may end up being placed in the same group.

Playoffs: The tournament will have a Championship Bracket, Silver Bracket, and Bronze Bracket. All brackets will have a prize ceremony and medals will be given out to the top four teams in all three brackets. The 2024 Champion will have their team name and player names put on The Stapp King. The Silver Bracket winner will have their team name and city put on the Silver Bracket trophy.

Kubb sets: The U.S. Championship uses Standard Tournament sets from JP's Backyard Games. 
 

Charities: The U.S. Championship is also a fundraiser for Girls On The Run Chippewa Valley.

Food: Food will be served by Girls On The Run of the Chippewa Valley (including: Swedish brats and cheese curds) and City of Eau Claire. No glass bottles are allowed at the field.

Merchandise: Regular and womens cut t-shirts ($20), hats ($25), hoodies ($40), and more.

5 and 10-year players: 5-year=button. 10-year=pennant.
